IF you were not part of the team, then the following might interest you:
The World Economic Forum states that it is The international institution committed to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation – and we felt that we were also contributing to a better world through our work with them.
From our headquarters in the bowels of the military bunker in Davos, we transformed a bleak environment into the ambiance of a luxury hotel; furthermore, these serene venues needed to be changed numerous times each day. Our work required multi-dimensional creativity; like a precision time-piece, the perpetual motion needed meticulous movements from all parts.
Over the years, the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting in Davos became a phenomenal success, it turned into the most important meeting place for the leaders of the world.
Each year Apple Fields brought together amazing talent from around the world – most of the team-members were artists that enjoyed these couple of weeks of freelance adventure in Davos (the income also helped each to continue their work as artists).
Along with the long hours and hard work, they always found time for FUN and it became a ritual to produce a poster that provided a review of the work and busy days at the Annual Meeting. Each year from 1985 to 1995 a different artist (crew member) designed the poster. These posters were sent to everyone on the team and became collector’s items.
This webpage is designed for those people that worked on the Decor Team during those years. The orginal intention was to show the posters, however, as additional photos and documentation came to my attention, I decided to present these images in various ways that are easy to view:
- a picture-video (youTube format) reviewing the highlights of those years - including the famous posters
- a video that was made by Philippe Roux in 1992. Important to keep in mind that this was made using technology that is now obsolete (now in youTube format)
- Davos Gala: picture-video (youTube format) some special pics that have become even more fun over the years. Michael Buble guides you through the story with an appropriate song; Save the Last Dance for Me!
- a PDF file that can be downloaded. This makes it easier to view the posters & pictures of interest - and they can also be printed
- Apple Fields then worked with the United Nations, Swiss Government & NGOs, especially on subjects related to sustainable development / there is a PDF file showing the potent graphics that were made by some of Europe's best graphic designers
- Currently in Thailand, I am writing eBooks about amazing Thailand - always with a golden thread relating to the environment. I have made a short pic-video offering a small taste of Thailand through my eBooks. More at: www.IndoChinaPeninsula.org
When viewing the images, it is important to keep in mind that these activities in Davos happened 20 and 30 years ago! Most of the posters were made using the authentic scissors to cut - and glue to paste. There were NO digital cameras, no iPhones – and in fact, we were considered avant-garde in our use of the original Apple-Mac-Intosh-computers!
Obviously technology has changed – equally interesting is that our mindsets have also changed. Each person on the Decor-Team was valued for their creativity and manual labour in responding to their tasks. Today this all looks rather strange (it seems that attitudes were different at that time) and these images are a potent reminder that the world has changed dramatically in the past few years. We were fortunate to share those exciting years of growth with the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos.
This is also a good moment for me to say Thank You once again to those that were a part of this fantastic Decor-Team. I hope that this page will provide you / the reader with wonderful memories about a different epoch. …and maybe it will even serve as inspiration for others.
